Denim is a constant in my wardrobe, but the way it’s styled is what gives it new life. Lately, I’ve been thinking more intentionally about color pairings, textures, and layers that make denim feel refined rather than routine.
This is a simple styling guide built around different washes, highlighting the tones that work best with each one. The goal is to help you get more out of the jeans you already own and create outfits that feel thoughtful, wearable, and considered.

Light Wash Denim with Soft Pastel Tones
Light wash denim pairs beautifully with soft color. Pastels add freshness without overpowering the look, especially when balanced with clean silhouettes and simple layers. Think pale pink knits, baby blue button downs, and lightweight cardigans that feel easy and polished.
These combinations are perfect for early spring when you want something light but still cozy.
Mid Wash Denim with Earthy Tones
Mid wash denim feels grounded and timeless, making it the perfect base for warmer, earth driven shades. Rich neutrals, olive tones, soft browns, and classic trench layers all work seamlessly here.
This is the kind of denim I reach for when I want an outfit to feel effortless but substantial, something that works now and well into the season.
Dark Wash Denim with Dark Tones
Dark wash denim naturally lends itself to deeper, richer colors. Charcoal knits, black button downs, and structured jackets create looks that feel polished and intentional without feeling heavy.
These are pieces that layer beautifully and can be styled buttoned up or worn open for a more relaxed feel.

Black Wash Denim with Light Neutrals or Brights
Black denim is incredibly versatile and works just as well with soft neutrals as it does with bold color. Creamy knits keep things light and balanced, while a bright pop of color adds interest and personality.
This is an easy way to make black denim feel fresh and modern without overthinking it.

Denim doesn’t need to be complicated to feel elevated. Small shifts in color, texture, and layering can completely change the way it looks and feels, making it one of the most useful pieces in your wardrobe.
